Luckenbooth Brooch In Silver
£80.00
SKU : ORT120
This stylish brooch is made in Scotland and is available in sterling silver (pictured) and 9ct gold. It depicts the ‘luckenbooth’ heart and crown design which dates back to the 16th century and is named after the locked booths used by silversmiths and goldsmiths that were used to sell wares outside St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh centuries ago.
Legend suggests that Mary Queen of Scots presented a luckenbooth brooch to Lord Darnley as a symbol of her love and devotion and this design has been associated with protection, particularly from bad spirits, and luckenbooth brooches were once pinned on babies’ shawls.
