9ct gold tie tack with a Luckenbooth design. The Luckenbooth is a traditional Edinburgh design which dates back to the 16th century and is named after the locked booths used by silversmiths and goldsmiths to sell wares outside St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. They were usually given as a token of love, much as an engagement ring is today.
